AUCTION BEGINS 11th FEBRUARY 2019

Target Amount: £2,000

Every year we try and raise money for conservation projects around the world. Last year we gave 10% of profits from our shop to the Liwiro sanctuary in the Congo to help orphaned chimpanzees. We also raise £1 per bag of coffee we sell for the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust and Salmon and Trout Conservation.  The project we have identified for next year will help protect the most trafficked animal in the world: the pangolin.

We will be raising money through various projects to fund trail cams to be given to an initiative run by Francois Meyer in collaboration with the African Pangolin Working Group.

Pangolins are medium-sized mammals, characterised by overlapping keratinous scales covering their body. They have a specialized myrmecophagous diet, feeding only on specific species of ants and termites. There is a total of eight species of pangolin remaining in the world of which four occur in Asia and four in Africa.

All eight species of pangolin are currently considered vulnerable to extinction, with their numbers rapidly declining due to the excessive demand for pangolin scales from the illegal trade. The trade is often highly organised and lucrative, making it extremely problematic to counteract. In the case of live animals, they are often kept in compromising and stressful conditions leading to many fatalities, even when they have been rescued. These factors contribute to pangolins now being regarded as the most illegally trafficked mammals on Earth.

In asking Francois how we could help, apart from satellite trackers:

“Another invaluable technology to aid in pangolin monitoring is the use of Trail-Cameras/Camera-Traps. The information gathered from these devices not only helps us understand more about the pangolins themselves (e.g. sleeping, feeding and movement behaviour), but also more about their habitat and the animals they share it/compete with. This information further contributes to other ongoing research and aids in reserve management.”

We believe as hunters, we have the greatest responsibility when it comes to protecting the wildlife on this planet. We understand the cycle of life and death better than most. This means we need to channel our efforts not just towards species we gain something from in terms of hunting, but many of those we don’t, and yet equally as important.

How we are raising money:

One of the ways we are raising money is to run an auction for a number of items which have been given to us. The list can be seen in the pictures here, with live bidding available in the comments section on our facebook page: PaceBrothersIntoTheWilderness

If you don’t use facebook don’t worry, you can still view our bid, and can email us your bid at info@paceproductionsuk.com and we will put the bid in on your behalf.pubic page to see the latest
